Landscape Lighting in Lahore: Plan the Light Before the Fixtures

3 min read

A practical guide to choosing what to illuminate, checking glare and coordinating garden lighting with paving, planting and electrical access.

Begin a garden lighting plan by walking through the property after dark. The immediate priorities may be a step, a turn in the path or the entrance gate. Once those are clear, decide which planting or structures you want to see from the sitting area and from inside the house.

Separate circulation from feature lighting

Mark paths, steps and changes in level on a drawing. Then mark the places where people sit and the views you want to retain. Lighting every tree equally can make the garden busy while leaving the route to the door poorly defined. A short list of priorities gives the designer something specific to work towards.

A spotlight, an uplight and a fitting intended for a water feature have different purposes. Choose the effect first, then discuss suitable fixtures and their position. Ask to see the effect from normal viewing positions, including a seated position, because a lamp hidden from standing height may still shine directly into someone's eyes.

Use a sample before repeating it

Where practical, try a proposed fitting in its intended location before ordering the full quantity. Check the brightness and colour beside existing house lights. View it from the gate and neighbouring boundaries as well as from within the garden. A product photograph cannot show how the light will behave against your paving or foliage.

  • Check whether the beam crosses a window or an adjacent property.
  • Keep fixtures out of routine mowing and trimming routes.
  • Leave space to clean fittings and replace components.
  • Decide which lights should operate together and which need separate control.
  • Allow for plants to grow without covering the intended light source.

Coordinate the installation before paving

Agree on cable routes, sleeves, controls and access points while the landscape work is being planned. Retrofitting a route beneath a completed path may mean lifting the finish. Record the installed arrangement so maintenance staff know where equipment is located.

Outdoor electrical work and lighting near water require suitable equipment and qualified installation. Ask the electrical professional to specify the necessary protection for each location. Keep the design discussion focused on placement and appearance, with electrical design and testing handled by the appropriate specialist.

Check the finished garden after dark

Include an evening review in the handover plan. Adjust direction and check controls with the person who will operate them. GardenPlus's Landscape Lighting service covers selection and installation planning for lighting fixtures, underwater lights, spotlights, sheet lighting, uplighting and other outdoor systems.
